Be Happy!
I am one of those people that do not celebrate Valentine’s Day, at least not in the conventional way. I prefer to have my own ‘love day’, a private one that I won’t share with the world (I’m selfish like that), but only with my loved one.Still, because there was so much love around the internet today, I felt like reading some of my favorite love-quotes.. and so I made a selection for you to enjoy as well.
Happy Valentine’s Day, my dear readers!
“I guess love’s kind of like a marshmallow in a microwave on high. After it explodes it’s still a marshmallow. But, you know, now it’s a complicated marshmallow.”
~ Cath Crowley, Graffiti Moon
“Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well.”
~ Laini Taylor, Daughter of Smoke & Bone
“Will you please tell me you love me? I’m dying here.”
~ Stephanie Perkins, Anna and the French Kiss
>“See, I remember love. That’s what people don’t understand.”
~ Melina Marchetta, On the Jellicoe Road
“You love me. Real or not real?”
I tell him, “Real.”
~ Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay
“I might be in love with you.” He smiles a little. “I’m waiting until I’m sure to tell you, though.”
~ Veronica Roth, Divergent
“Maybe. But you know, when you love someone you love them. And every day you sit back pretending that you don’t is one less day you have with him.”
~ Katie Klein, Cross My Heart
“Saw two fallen branches in the shape of a heart. Thought of you.”
~ Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door
“It wasn’t love right away, because nothing ever is no matter what the songs say, but it was the start of it. A beginning in one way, and the end in another. I think that might always be true of love.”
~ Amy Garvey, Cold Kiss
“Sometimes kindness can be delivered in a clumsy way. But it’s far more sincere in its clumsiness than those distinguished men you read about in books. Your father was very clumsy.”
~ Ruta Sepetys, Between Shades of Gray
“You,” he says, before the door closes all the way. “I often dream of you.”
~ Sangu Mandanna, The Lost Girl
“I like you. I. Like. You. I’ll admit you’re annoying. Sometimes you agitate me to the brink of insanity, but you can throw it back at me like no one else. When you laugh, I want to laugh. When you smile, I want to smile. Hell, I want to be the one to make you smile.”
~Katie McGarry, Dare You To
When the zipper snaps open, Ben pauses, his breath hot in my ear.
“Janelle Tenner,” he whispers. “I fucking love you.”
~ Elizabeth Norris, Unraveling
“A perfect person is easy to love. But when somebody likes all your imperfections, well, that’s when you know they really mean it.”The last one is a bit more subtle, because sometimes love is something we don’t put into words:
― Michelle Dalton, Sixteenth Summer
“There’s only one thing we never wrote down. You know what it was.”And these are only a few..
~ Mira Grant, Blackout
So, what about you? What’s your favorite love quote?
Oooo I love your idea 🙂 I want to read some of the books you’ve posted a quote so I think I’m going to like them.
Thanks for sharing 😀
I am glad that you liked it 😉 And I hope that you will enjoy the books as well.
You didn’t tell me what’s your favorite love quote? I bet that you have many ;))
What a great idea!!! I totally wish I’d thought of this and may very well steal it from you next year (if I remember…) 🙂
Here’s just a few of my favorites:
“And when you get down to it, Lily, that is the only purpose grand enough for a human life. Not just to love but to persist in love.”― Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees
“It feels like he’s taken your heart, doesn’t it?….Like he’s reached in and pulled it out from you. And I bet he smiles like he doesn’t know, like he doesn’t know he’s holding your heart in his hand and you’re dying from him.”― Sarah Addison Allen, The Sugar Queen
For an instant she felt his touch on her cheek then he stepped back. “There that was my ration for all eternity. People have died for less I dare say.”― Eva Ibbotson, A Countess Below Stairs
I am glad that you liked the idea and I’ll be waiting for your favorite quotes on the next Valentine’s 😉 Also, I loved the quote from The Sugar Queen. I have that book on my to-read list and you just gave me a reason to get to it soon 😀
I simply love these quotes! Wonderful post, Ari!
And as I see that you liked Jellicoe Road, here’s my favorite line from it:
“It’s funny how you can forget everything except people loving you. Maybe that’s why humans find it so hard getting over love affairs. It’s not the pain they’re getting over, it’s the love.”
― Melina Marchetta, On the Jellicoe Road
Yes, Jellicoe is my all time favorite story.. not to mention that particular quote, it brings tears to my eyes – so true. Thanks for reminding me of it 🙂
Did you read other books from Marchetta? They are all really good!
